kerala Folklore Museum started its journey in 2009. It was a non-profit organization at the beginning. It is a dream project of George Thaliath and his wife Annie George. George Thaliath joined his father Jacob V Thaliath in dealing with Indian art after his post-graduation. It took 25 years to build the museum. 62 carpenters and skilled workers have worked on this project for more than 7 years The very facade and entrance of the Kerala Folklore Museum will blow your mind. The door is built from the wooden carvings collected from across Kerala. The remnants of a 16th-century temple in Tamil Nadu are also used. You will notice a striking manichitratazhu. It is an antique ornate door lock of Kerala. Kerala Folklore Museum building consists of three floors. The first floor is Kalithattu, which describes a floor dedicated to play. On the first floor, you will find interesting information and dance costumes of Kathakali, Mohiniyattam and Ottanthullal etc. The second floor is called Kanjadalam. It means lotus petal. On this floor, different mural paintings are kept. Even the wooden ceiling is made up of 60 different frames. Finally, a beautiful performance theatre is built on the third floor. Currently, the theatre carries out authentic stage performances. The performances are held at 6.30 pm every day.Besides, in the museum, you will find 4000 artefacts on exhibits including masks, sculptures, manuscripts and jewellery. These antiques belong to the whole of India, let alone Kerala. Utensils from even the Stone age are preserved here as well. The musical instruments of old times will certainly draw your attention..
